LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT & PRODUCT SUSTAINABILITY

Product and Packaging Sustainability Assessment

Turn product and packaging evidence into practical priorities. Review assumptions before decisions.

AIGreen Plus helps Malaysian manufacturers define a product and packaging assessment, organise evidence, test reasonable alternatives and document limitations. The engagement can map materials, manufacturing, distribution and end-of-life assumptions, with qualified client reviewers retaining accountability for methods, claims and final choices.

WHAT DOES THIS CONSULTANCY OUTLINE COVER?

This consultancy examines a defined product and its packaging across agreed life-cycle stages. We gather bills of materials, packaging specifications, supplier evidence, logistics assumptions and end-of-life information, then create a traceable evidence and options review. ISO 14040 can inform goal, scope, inventory, impact, interpretation, reporting and critical-review planning, but the work is not a certified LCA or assurance opinion. Client subject-matter owners approve data, boundaries and conclusions.

Use a source register that links each material, packaging and route assumption to an owner and review status.

Unclear boundary choices

Make scope decisions explicit

Document functional unit, life-cycle stages, geography, intended use and exclusions before comparison.

Packaging trade-offs

Compare options without overclaiming

Screen format and material choices across relevant stages, with data gaps and trade-offs visible.

Unapproved green wording

Strengthen review before communication

Separate findings, assumptions and proposed claims so authorised owners can approve or reject wording.

04 / HONEST HYPOTHETICAL FIGURES

Show the working behind a planning example.

These figures are modest arithmetic for discussion, not customer evidence, forecasts, emissions claims, payroll promises or guaranteed outcomes.

HYPOTHETICAL WORKED EXAMPLE / NOT CUSTOMER RESULTS
REPETITIVE ADMIN EFFORT36.4%less labour time per one product-or-pack evidence record reconciled for the assessment register

55 → 35 combined labour minutes for the same task.

TIME CAPACITY6.0hours / month released

MeasureIllustrative calculationMeaning and limit
Labour effort(55 − 35) ÷ 55 × 100 = 36.4%Same workload and expected review quality; includes ongoing exception checks as scoped.
Time capacity(55 − 35) × 18 ÷ 60 = 6.0 hoursReleased time is not payroll savings or guaranteed job reduction.
Admin checks(12 − 5) ÷ 100 = 7.0 percentage points; 58.3% relativeSeparate hypothetical like-for-like check of 100 register entries with missing owner, version or source-reference errors; review and exceptions remain required, and this is not a quality, certification or outcome guarantee.

Hypothetical same-workload illustration: a client coordinator and consultant spend 55 combined minutes locating, checking and logging one record before a structured register; after a scoped template, they spend 35 combined minutes including exception review. It is not a headcount, payroll, productivity, carbon or energy saving estimate.

Scenario figures are illustrative arithmetic, not benchmarks, forecasts, actual customer results or guarantees. Measure a like-for-like pilot with the same definitions before making a claim.

06 / BEFORE YOU INVEST

Inputs, boundaries and ownership should be clear.

These lists are a starting point. Final scope, access, professional responsibility and outputs require written agreement.

STARTING INPUTS

What to prepare

  • Approved bill of materials and product mass records from product engineering
  • Packaging specifications, dimensions, formats and supplier declarations from packaging and procurement owners
  • Manufacturing, transport and distribution assumptions for the agreed product markets from operations and logistics
  • Material origin, recycled-content or process evidence that suppliers permit the client to use
  • Destination-market, use-phase and end-of-life assumptions with responsible commercial or environmental owner
SCOPE / CONTROL

What to agree in writing

  • This is scoped consultancy and assessment support, not installed software, a product environmental declaration, certified LCA, independent assurance or certification.
  • ISO 14040 may inform the goal, scope, inventory, impact, interpretation and review plan; the applicable method, factors and critical-review needs require written agreement and qualified judgement.
  • Client owners remain responsible for data accuracy, engineering feasibility, product safety, legal or tax interpretation and approval of any external sustainability claim.
  • Only least-necessary approved business records are requested; access, retention, confidentiality and supplier permissions are documented for the engagement rather than assumed.
  • Fees, recurring support, third-party testing, specialist modelling, destination-market advice and formal verification are separate scope items unless expressly agreed in writing.
PROPOSED DATA STRUCTURE / STATIC REFERENCE ONLY

Make activity, units and evidence easy to check.

Product and embedded-carbon records use the agreed product/system boundary, functional or declared unit, allocation rules and applicable method. They are not automatically equivalent to an organisational Scope 1/2/3 inventory. CBAM product boundaries and reporting rules need a separate applicability check.

Product boundary first

Proposed fields: product specification, functional/declared unit, system boundary, life-cycle stage, bill of materials, process inputs, energy, transport, allocation, exclusions and intended use. For EPD work, applicable product-category rules and independent programme requirements must be confirmed separately.

Proposed workbook fields — not a working form or emissions calculator
Field groupExample contents / selectionsReview check
Record identitySite/entity, reporting period, activity owner and source record IDKeep the agreed boundary and period consistent.
Activity/sourceFuel invoice, electricity meter, shipment, supplier record or process recordIdentify the evidence and whether the value is measured or estimated.
Quantity and selectable unitExamples: litres, kg, kWh, km, tonne-km or units of productChoose a unit appropriate to the method; do not interchange units without a documented conversion.
Emission factor and factor unitNumeric factor field; example unit kgCO₂e/kWh or kgCO₂e/litreNo default or approved factor is supplied here. The factor denominator must match the activity unit.
Factor provenanceSource, version/year, publication date, geography, gas/GWP basis and methodQualified reviewers approve applicability, conversion and any licensed factor data.
Evidence and reviewerDocument reference, estimation basis, data-quality flag, owner and approval statusTrace each calculation to approved records and retain unresolved exceptions.

This is an educational proposal panel, not a form, upload feature, factor database, live integration or calculated emissions result. Numerical dashboard values elsewhere are fictional; approved source data and qualified review are required for an actual engagement.

Confidence comes from traceable evidence.

Set definitions, boundaries, source ownership and review responsibility before interpreting a result. A qualified responsible person decides whether a finding is applicable.

07 / CLEAR ANSWERS

10 questions. Practical answers.

Clear answers

Frequently asked questions.

Ten practical answers about scope, sources, review and responsible use.

What does a Product and Packaging Sustainability Assessment cover?

We define the product and pack boundary, organise evidence, review relevant life-cycle stages, screen agreed alternatives and document uncertainty. The output is a traceable assessment pack and roadmap, not a blanket claim that one design is sustainable or compliant everywhere.

What information should a Malaysian manufacturer prepare first?

Start with the bill of materials, product and packaging masses, specifications, supplier declarations, manufacturing and logistics assumptions, target markets, use context and end-of-life information. We can begin with an evidence-gap list when records are incomplete.

Will you complete a full ISO life-cycle assessment?

The engagement can be scoped to an LCA-informed screening or a more detailed study. ISO 14040 describes an LCA framework including goal and scope, inventory, impact assessment, interpretation, reporting and critical review. The agreed method, factors and review level must be confirmed separately.

Who signs off the assumptions and final options?

The client’s authorised product, packaging, procurement and environmental owners approve source records, functional unit, boundaries and feasibility. A consultant can facilitate and document review, but does not replace management approval, engineering judgement or qualified legal advice.

Is this certification or independent assurance?

No. It is consultancy support and readiness-oriented documentation. It does not issue certification, an assurance opinion, a product declaration or an accredited result. Independent verification can be considered as a separate engagement with an appropriate provider.

Are the dashboard numbers and time scenario actual results?

No. Dashboard values and the administrative-effort scenario are fictional illustrations designed to show coherent registers and review steps. They are not customer measurements, benchmarks, headcount reductions, cost savings, energy savings or carbon reductions.

How are confidentiality and access handled?

Access is limited to approved business information needed for the agreed assessment. The engagement should specify owners, permissions, retention, supplier-use rights and any anonymisation. This page is not a legal or Malaysian privacy-compliance determination; qualified advisers should review requirements.

Can this work use our existing spreadsheets or systems?

Yes, existing controlled spreadsheets, document repositories and approved exports may be used as inputs. We do not assume an integration or installed product. Interface, testing, licences, access and manual fallback are separate written decisions.

How long does the assessment take?

Timing depends on product complexity, number of variants, evidence quality, supplier response and review availability. We confirm milestones after discovery rather than promise an invented duration. A practical sequence is scope, evidence, options review and handover.

What affects the quotation and ongoing support?

Scope is shaped by variants, markets, life-cycle stages, data cleaning, modelling depth, workshops, third-party testing and review needs. We provide a written scope and fee proposal; recurring monitoring, claim review and external assurance are not included unless expressly agreed.

08 / SOURCE NOTES

Check the current public material.

These references support an initial discussion only. They do not make AIGreen Plus an accredited or certified verifier.

Public official material — not accreditation.

These official pages support the assessment's LCA framework and an example destination-market packaging policy context. They do not determine Malaysian legal applicability, product claims, factors, certification or assurance; qualified advisers should confirm requirements for the organisation, product and reporting period.

Dashboards and numerical scenarios are fictional planning examples. The services are proposed consultancy scopes, not certification, accreditation, assurance, legal advice, regulatory approval or a promise of emissions, cost, staffing, safety, quality or market outcomes.
