Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
Turn product life-cycle data into a reviewable decision pack. Keep assumptions visible.
AIGreen Plus can help a Malaysian manufacturer define the product system, collect and reconcile foreground data, document secondary-data choices, and prepare a qualified review pack. The engagement is scoped consultancy, not installed software, certification, assurance or a promise of lower impacts.

LCA examines a defined product system across selected life-cycle stages. We help teams set the goal, functional unit and boundaries, assemble material, energy, transport, packaging and end-of-life evidence, then model inventory and impact results with assumptions and data gaps visible. A responsible client owner reviews the interpretation and approves any external claim; applicability of methods, standards and disclosures must be confirmed for the organisation and reporting period.

Fictional sample values · Fictional allocation of the six open items above for prioritising review; it is not an environmental-impact result or reduction forecast.
| Product case | Expected evidence items | Received items | Open items |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metal enclosure / gate-to-gate concept | 24 | 21 | 3 |
| Polymer component / cradle-to-gate concept | 18 | 16 | 2 |
| Finished assembly / selected life-cycle stages | 18 | 17 | 1 |
Fictional sample: 54 of 60 expected evidence items are received across three cases, leaving six open items. The draft flags supplier, factory and downstream records for review; it does not infer an impact hotspot or approve a claim.
Five steps, with an accountable owner.
Evidence, assumptions and open questions move through a human review route. No certification or automatic conclusion is implied.

The proposed support can structure records and questions; responsible owners still assess evidence, applicability and decisions.
| Review point | Common starting position | Proposed consultancy support | Responsible reviewer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Define product system and functional unit | Teams reconcile scope decisions across spreadsheets and meetings. | Proposed structured templates and digital assistance keep decisions and versions together. | An authorised sponsor approves intended use, boundaries and comparisons. |
| Collect supplier and factory activity data | Email requests and source files are checked one by one. | Proposed evidence register highlights missing fields, units and owner follow-ups. | Data owners verify provenance, confidentiality and permission to use each record. |
| Model inventory and impact categories | Analysts reconcile quantities, factors and allocation notes manually. | Proposed calculation workbooks and review prompts make assumptions traceable. | A qualified LCA reviewer selects methods, checks data quality and interprets results. |
| Prepare a decision and disclosure pack | Findings, caveats and open actions are assembled into a report. | Proposed draft tables and issue queues speed controlled handover. | The client approves any claim; independent verification, if needed, is separately appointed. |
Make the comparison fair
Document functional unit, reference flow, inclusions, exclusions and allocation choices before modelling.
Create a traceable evidence trail
Link source records and owners to inventory lines, with gaps and proxy decisions visible.
Prioritise better data
Use completeness, consistency and sensitivity checks to focus client effort on material uncertainties.
Hand over qualified findings
Separate modelled results, limitations, action options and any need for external critical review.

90 → 55 combined labour minutes for the same task.
12 one product-evidence packet checked against the agreed LCA data request units per month × 35 minutes less per unit.
8 → 3 per 100 checked error-affected administrative entries, not incidents, accidents, disease or product-defect outcomes (5.0 percentage points).

| Measure | Illustrative calculation | Meaning and limit |
|---|---|---|
| Labour effort | (90 − 55) ÷ 90 × 100 = 38.9% | Same workload and expected review quality; includes ongoing exception checks as scoped. |
| Time capacity | (90 − 55) × 12 ÷ 60 = 7.0 hours | Released time is not payroll savings or guaranteed job reduction. |
| Admin checks | (8 − 3) ÷ 100 = 5.0 percentage points; 62.5% relative | Separate hypothetical like-for-like administrative check of entries needing correction; it is not a safety, compliance, certification or environmental-outcome guarantee. |
Hypothetical same-workload scenario: 90 minutes before and 55 minutes after for client review, consultant reconciliation and exception logging on each packet; it describes administrative effort only, not headcount, payroll, factory output or impact improvement.
Scenario figures are illustrative arithmetic, not benchmarks, forecasts, actual customer results or guarantees. Measure a like-for-like pilot with the same definitions before making a claim.

What to prepare
- Approved product bill of materials and mass data from engineering
- Factory electricity, fuel, water and process-activity records from operations
- Supplier material, packaging and manufacturing evidence from procurement
- Inbound and outbound transport modes, distances and quantities from logistics
- Product use, maintenance and end-of-life assumptions from product and customer-service owners
What to agree in writing
- The client approves goal, functional unit, system boundary, allocation and comparison rules before results are used.
- Confidential or personal data is minimised, anonymised where possible, access-controlled and retained only under written terms.
- ISO 14040/14044 are reference frameworks; the paid standards, a product-category rule or an impact method are not supplied unless agreed.
- This service does not provide accredited assurance, certification, legal or tax advice, regulator approval, or permission to make an environmental claim.
- Interfaces, licences, data refreshes, supplier outreach, training, recurring support and external critical review require a written scope and quotation.
Make activity, units and evidence easy to check.
Product and embedded-carbon records use the agreed product/system boundary, functional or declared unit, allocation rules and applicable method. They are not automatically equivalent to an organisational Scope 1/2/3 inventory. CBAM product boundaries and reporting rules need a separate applicability check.
Product boundary first
Proposed fields: product specification, functional/declared unit, system boundary, life-cycle stage, bill of materials, process inputs, energy, transport, allocation, exclusions and intended use. For EPD work, applicable product-category rules and independent programme requirements must be confirmed separately.
| Field group | Example contents / selections | Review check |
|---|---|---|
| Record identity | Site/entity, reporting period, activity owner and source record ID | Keep the agreed boundary and period consistent. |
| Activity/source | Fuel invoice, electricity meter, shipment, supplier record or process record | Identify the evidence and whether the value is measured or estimated. |
| Quantity and selectable unit | Examples: litres, kg, kWh, km, tonne-km or units of product | Choose a unit appropriate to the method; do not interchange units without a documented conversion. |
| Emission factor and factor unit | Numeric factor field; example unit kgCO₂e/kWh or kgCO₂e/litre | No default or approved factor is supplied here. The factor denominator must match the activity unit. |
| Factor provenance | Source, version/year, publication date, geography, gas/GWP basis and method | Qualified reviewers approve applicability, conversion and any licensed factor data. |
| Evidence and reviewer | Document reference, estimation basis, data-quality flag, owner and approval status | Trace each calculation to approved records and retain unresolved exceptions. |

Frequently asked questions.
Ten practical answers about scope, sources, review and responsible use.
What does an LCA consultancy engagement cover?
We scope the product system, functional unit and life-cycle stages, collect and reconcile evidence, document assumptions, model the agreed inventory and impact categories, and prepare a reviewable decision pack. The exact boundary and deliverables are agreed during discovery.
What data should a Malaysian manufacturer prepare first?
Start with a bill of materials, product mass and production volume, factory energy and process records, supplier evidence, transport details, packaging, and use or end-of-life assumptions. We can identify owners and gaps; do not send personal data that is not needed.
Which method or standard will you use?
ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 provide the principles, framework, requirements and guidance. We agree the functional unit, impact method, databases, allocation and any product-category rule for the stated decision. Applicability must be confirmed for your product and reporting period.
Who signs off the LCA findings?
Your authorised product or sustainability owner approves the goal, boundary and use of results. A qualified LCA reviewer checks methods, data quality and interpretation. Any public comparison or claim needs the client’s own approval and may need separate critical review.
Does this make our product certified or independently assured?
No. A consultancy LCA and a readiness review are distinct from certification, accredited assurance or an external critical review. We can document what a separate reviewer may need, but we do not present AIGreen Plus as an accredited verifier or guarantee acceptance.
Are the dashboard figures or time scenario our actual results?
No. The dashboard and scenario are fictional planning examples. They do not measure your carbon, energy, water, staffing or administrative savings. During an engagement, we would label source data, assumptions, uncertainty and any approved factors so results are not mistaken for promises.
How are confidentiality and access handled?
Access is limited to the least necessary approved records and named roles under written terms. We can work with anonymised or aggregated supplier information where suitable. Your Malaysian legal, privacy and information-security advisers must confirm obligations; this service is not a compliance determination.
Can you work with our existing spreadsheets or systems?
Usually, discovery can start from controlled spreadsheets, exports and document registers. Existing-system access, integrations, licences, data formats, retention and manual fallback are feasibility questions, not assumed product features. We will confirm them before quoting any digital assistance.
How long will the LCA take?
Timing depends on boundary complexity, supplier response, data quality, modelling choices, review availability and whether external critical review is needed. We do not promise a fixed duration before discovery; milestones and client dependencies are written into the agreed plan.
What drives the quotation and ongoing support?
Scope, product count, life-cycle coverage, data gaps, supplier outreach, impact categories, workshops, review depth, travel, licences and refresh frequency affect the quote. Recurring updates, training or support are optional and separately agreed; no 24/7 service or outcome is implied.

The JRC guide explains the LCA framework and iterative work across goal and scope, inventory, impact assessment and interpretation, including completeness, sensitivity and consistency checks and documentation of data sources.
These official sources support the LCA phases, documentation and review framing only; they do not determine a Malaysian manufacturer’s legal, tax, product-claim or disclosure applicability. A qualified adviser and the relevant product or programme rules must confirm those matters for the organisation and reporting period.
Dashboards and numerical scenarios are fictional planning examples. The services are proposed consultancy scopes, not certification, accreditation, assurance, legal advice, regulatory approval or a promise of emissions, cost, staffing, safety, quality or market outcomes.
