Double Materiality Assessment
Turn scattered ESG concerns into a reviewable materiality map. Keep judgement, evidence and accountability visible.
AIGreen Plus can facilitate a scoped double materiality assessment for a Malaysian manufacturer across selected operations and value-chain relationships. We organise evidence, stakeholder inputs, impact and financial lenses, assumptions and review points into a decision-ready pack. This is consultancy and proposed digital assistance, not installed software, assurance or a certification outcome.

A double materiality assessment identifies sustainability impacts on people and the environment and sustainability-related risks and opportunities that may affect the organisation financially. For a manufacturer, the work can cover agreed sites, products, suppliers, customers and reporting users. We build an evidence register, assess candidate matters against agreed criteria and document rationale for management review. The client and qualified advisers retain responsibility for applicability, thresholds, disclosures and final sign-off.

Fictional candidate records by assessment lens
Fictional sample values · Bars compare fictional candidate-record volumes only; they are not impact severity, financial exposure or reporting results
| Assessment lens | Candidate records | Evidence complete | Open evidence flags |
|---|---|---|---|
| Own operations and workforce | 14 | 8 | 6 |
| Upstream suppliers and inputs | 11 | 7 | 4 |
| Products, customers and users | 9 | 5 | 4 |
| Governance and business conduct | 8 | 4 | 4 |
Fictional rows contain 42 candidate records, with 24 marked evidence complete. The draft prioritises source, stakeholder and threshold checks across operations, value chain, products and governance; it does not infer which matters are material or prescribe disclosure.
Five steps, with an accountable owner.
Evidence, assumptions and open questions move through a human review route. No certification or automatic conclusion is implied.

The proposed support can structure records and questions; responsible owners still assess evidence, applicability and decisions.
| Review point | Common starting position | Proposed consultancy support | Responsible reviewer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identify sustainability matters across operations and value chain | Teams combine registers, supplier files, complaints, customer requests and workshop notes by hand | Proposed structured evidence index and topic map for agreed records | Client owners confirm completeness, boundary and affected-stakeholder relevance |
| Assess impact materiality | Analysts copy severity, scope, likelihood and time-horizon reasoning into separate workbooks | Proposed assessment template linking each impact to criteria, evidence and uncertainty | Qualified reviewers challenge criteria and management approves the conclusion |
| Assess financial risks and opportunities | Finance and risk teams reconcile dependencies, scenarios and business implications in meetings | Proposed cross-reference of dependencies, time horizons, assumptions and decision relevance | Finance and management validate significance, uncertainty and approval |
| Prepare reporting-readiness handover | Disclosure teams search late for rationale, omissions, owners and supporting evidence | Proposed decision register mapped to agreed reporting questions and evidence locations | Management and qualified advisers determine applicability, disclosure and assurance needs |
Define what is being assessed
Facilitate a scope note covering entities, sites, products, value-chain links, users, periods and decision questions.
Make rationale traceable
Create an evidence register recording source, date, owner, stakeholder perspective, boundary, uncertainty and unresolved gaps.
Separate impact from finance
Structure impact and financial assessments so criteria, dependencies, thresholds and judgements remain visible rather than blended.
Leave a reviewable trail
Handover a materiality map and decision log with approvals, exclusions, open questions and proposed refresh triggers.

These figures are modest arithmetic for discussion, not customer evidence, forecasts, emissions claims, payroll promises or guaranteed outcomes.
100 → 60 combined labour minutes for the same task.
12 one candidate IRO evidence-and-review pack units per month × 40 minutes less per unit.
14 → 6 per 100 checked error-affected administrative materiality records, not environmental impacts, financial losses, incidents or disclosure compliance outcomes (8.0 percentage points).

| Measure | Illustrative calculation | Meaning and limit |
|---|---|---|
| Labour effort | (100 − 60) ÷ 100 × 100 = 40.0% | Same workload and expected review quality; includes ongoing exception checks as scoped. |
| Time capacity | (100 − 60) × 12 ÷ 60 = 8.0 hours | Released time is not payroll savings or guaranteed job reduction. |
| Admin checks | (14 − 6) ÷ 100 = 8.0 percentage points; 57.1% relative | Separate hypothetical like-for-like check of 100 administrative entries: 14 versus 6 contain an incorrect source link, period, boundary, criterion or reviewer field after review. It is not a benchmark, measured result or assurance conclusion. |
Hypothetical same-workload comparison: client coordinators and a consultant spend 100 combined minutes gathering, reconciling and checking one candidate IRO pack before a structured template; the same pack takes 60 combined minutes after the proposed template is agreed. Both figures include review and exception effort and are not headcount, payroll or reporting-outcome estimates.
Scenario figures are illustrative arithmetic, not benchmarks, forecasts, actual customer results or guarantees. Measure a like-for-like pilot with the same definitions before making a claim.

What to prepare
- Approved entity, site, product, process and value-chain boundary information from the sustainability or operations owner
- Existing impact, risk, opportunity, incident, grievance, audit, customer and supplier records with period and source from responsible functions
- Stakeholder and worker-representative perspectives, engagement records and due-diligence context approved by the client owner
- Finance, strategy, procurement and enterprise-risk assumptions about dependencies, time horizons and potential business effects
- Reporting objectives, applicable frameworks, prior disclosures, governance calendar and authorised reviewers supplied by management
What to agree in writing
- This is scoped consultancy and proposed digital assistance; no software, data-entry app, integration or continuous monitoring is assumed to be installed.
- The client owns the boundary, criteria, thresholds, stakeholder process, materiality conclusions and final wording; AIGreen Plus does not make legal, tax or reporting determinations.
- Readiness support is not independent assurance, certification, accreditation or a representation that the organisation conforms to ESRS, CSRD, Bursa or another requirement.
- Use anonymised or minimum-necessary business and stakeholder data where possible; access, retention, confidentiality, security and any system connection require written agreement.
- Qualified advisers must confirm current Malaysian and cross-border applicability, reporting phase, method and disclosure obligations for the organisation and reporting period.
Set definitions, boundaries, source ownership and review responsibility before interpreting a result. A qualified responsible person decides whether a finding is applicable.

Frequently asked questions.
Ten practical answers about scope, sources, review and responsible use.
What does a Double Materiality Assessment engagement cover?
It covers agreed boundaries, candidate sustainability matters, evidence and stakeholder review, impact and financial materiality analysis, documented assumptions, qualified challenge and a handover pack. It does not promise that a topic is material, replace management judgement or produce independent assurance.
What information should a Malaysian manufacturer prepare first?
Prepare the entity and site list, products and processes, supplier and customer relationships, risk and opportunity registers, grievances or engagement records, relevant policies, finance assumptions and prior disclosures. We agree the minimum necessary data set before confidential files are shared.
Which standard or method will you use?
The method is agreed during scoping. ESRS concepts can inform an assessment, including impact and financial materiality, while other reporting or customer requirements may also matter. Qualified advisers must confirm the current framework, applicability and reporting period; this service does not provide a legal determination.
Who must approve the materiality conclusions?
The client designates accountable owners from management, sustainability, finance, risk and relevant operations. They approve the boundary, criteria, stakeholder evidence, ratings and exclusions. A qualified adviser can challenge the rationale, but AIGreen Plus does not sign on behalf of the organisation or its directors.
Is this assessment certification or independent assurance?
No. The deliverable is consultancy and reporting-readiness support. It is not a certificate, accredited opinion, audit or independent assurance engagement. External assurance, if required, is separately scoped with an appropriate provider, and readiness does not guarantee an assurance conclusion.
Are the dashboard figures and time scenario actual results?
No. Dashboard rows and the 100-to-60-minute scenario are fictional planning illustrations. They do not represent measured labour, emissions, energy, headcount, financial exposure or reporting quality. A client can later measure agreed administrative effort and record quality using its own approved baseline.
How are confidentiality and access handled?
The client approves the records, users, access route and retention period. Minimum-necessary or anonymised information is preferred, with source ownership and reviewer fields retained. Security, confidentiality, storage and any connection to an existing system require written agreement and qualified Malaysian review where relevant.
Can this work with our existing spreadsheets or ESG systems?
Possibly, subject to discovery, permissions, file quality and written scope. We can review exports or agreed templates without claiming a pre-existing integration. Any connector, API, licence, migration, testing, access control or manual fallback is separately assessed and approved.
How long will the assessment take?
Timing depends on boundary complexity, stakeholder availability, evidence quality, review cycles and the selected framework. We propose milestones after the scope workshop rather than inventing a duration. Delays in approvals or source data can change the plan, and no deadline or reporting outcome is guaranteed.
What drives the quotation and ongoing support terms?
Price and support depend on entities and sites, value-chain depth, number of topics, stakeholder work, data preparation, workshops, qualified review, travel, systems access, revisions and refresh frequency. No price or 24/7 support is implied; recurring work, ownership and response terms are agreed in writing.

Public official material — not accreditation.
- EFRAG IG 1: Materiality Assessment Implementation Guidance
Supports the bounded process framing: understand context, identify impacts/risk/opportunities, assess materiality and report; it also explains value-chain coverage, stakeholder input and impact criteria. The guidance is non-authoritative and does not dictate one process.
- EUR-Lex ESRS 1 and ESRS 2 consolidated text
Supports the definition that a sustainability matter can be material by impact materiality, financial materiality or both, and that materiality assessment is the starting point for ESRS reporting and IRO-1 process disclosure.
- European Commission: Corporate sustainability reporting
Supports the applicability caution that EU rules concern companies within their scope and that companies subject to CSRD report under ESRS; it does not establish that every Malaysian manufacturer is subject to those rules.
Official EFRAG, EUR-Lex and European Commission pages support terminology and bounded ESRS context only. Applicability, current amendments, Malaysian obligations, reporting phase and any cross-border requirement must be confirmed for the organisation and reporting period by qualified advisers.
Dashboards and numerical scenarios are fictional planning examples. The services are proposed consultancy scopes, not certification, accreditation, assurance, legal advice, regulatory approval or a promise of emissions, cost, staffing, safety, quality or market outcomes.
