Embedded Carbon Emissions Calculation for Export Products
Make export-product emissions evidence easier to trace. Keep assumptions visible and reviewable.
AIGreen Plus can help a Malaysian manufacturer define a product and export boundary, map activity data, document factor sources, reconcile gaps and prepare a review pack. The engagement is a scoped consultancy proposal, not installed software, certified assurance, legal advice or a promise of a particular emissions result.

This service organises a defensible calculation file for selected export products or batches. It links product quantity, materials, energy, process and logistics records to documented factors, units, periods and evidence, then flags assumptions and unresolved gaps for client review. The output can support customer conversations or readiness work, but applicability, method selection and any formal declaration remain with authorised management and qualified advisers.

Illustrative evidence references
Fictional sample values · Each bar counts one displayed fictional row with an evidence reference; packaging needs follow-up. Values are not emissions or comparable physical quantities.
| Source activity row | Quantity (illustrative) | Assumed factor and unit (fictional) | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aluminium billet input | 1000 kg | 1.80 kgCO2e/kg | Invoice + supplier sheet |
| Grid electricity allocated to batch | 240 kWh | 0.60 kgCO2e/kWh | Meter allocation note |
| Outbound sea freight | 80 tonne-km | 0.09 kgCO2e/tonne-km | Booking record |
| Packaging material | 50 kg | 0.40 kgCO2e/kg | Needs supplier evidence |
The fictional sample contains four activity rows, three with an evidence reference and one needing follow-up. A consultant would use this queue to reconcile units, boundaries and factor provenance before any client-approved figure is released.
Five steps, with an accountable owner.
Evidence, assumptions and open questions move through a human review route. No certification or automatic conclusion is implied.

Organise the work. Keep conclusions with people.
The proposed support can structure records and questions; responsible owners still assess evidence, applicability and decisions.
| Review point | Common starting position | Proposed consultancy support | Responsible reviewer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Define product and export boundary | Scattered emails and spreadsheets make inclusions and exclusions hard to trace. | Proposed digital worksheet structures product, batch, period, unit and boundary fields. | Authorised client owner approves scope and exclusions; adviser confirms applicability where needed. |
| Collect activity evidence | Teams reconcile invoices, meter records, bills of materials and shipment documents by hand. | Proposed evidence register links each activity line to an owner, source, factor and status. | Data owners validate quantities, units and confidentiality before use. |
| Calculate and reconcile | Formula versions and allocation notes can be spread across working files. | Proposed calculation template makes assumptions, factor provenance and exceptions visible. | Consultant checks method; client reviews and approves the information used. |
| Prepare a customer or adviser pack | A response is assembled repeatedly for each product or request. | Proposed handover pack provides a bounded summary, evidence index and open-items list. | Management decides what may be shared; external verification or legal/tax advice is separate. |
Start with a usable scope
Facilitate a written boundary and functional-unit decision so later data requests refer to the same product and period.
Make assumptions inspectable
Record factor units, source, version, date and rationale beside each applicable activity rather than hiding them in a formula.
Prioritise evidence work
Turn missing supplier, energy or logistics records into an owned, reviewable exception queue.
Create a refreshable pack
Handover a structured calculation and evidence index that the client can update under agreed controls.

These figures are modest arithmetic for discussion, not customer evidence, forecasts, emissions claims, payroll promises or guaranteed outcomes.
90 → 60 combined labour minutes for the same task.
12 one product- or batch-level evidence reconciliation units per month × 30 minutes less per unit.
12 → 5 per 100 checked error-affected administrative entries in a calculation evidence register, not environmental compliance, incidents, accidents, disease or product-defect outcomes (7.0 percentage points).

| Measure | Illustrative calculation | Meaning and limit |
|---|---|---|
| Labour effort | (90 − 60) ÷ 90 × 100 = 33.3% | Same workload and expected review quality; includes ongoing exception checks as scoped. |
| Time capacity | (90 − 60) × 12 ÷ 60 = 6.0 hours | Released time is not payroll savings or guaranteed job reduction. |
| Admin checks | (12 − 5) ÷ 100 = 7.0 percentage points; 58.3% relative | Separate hypothetical like-for-like check of administrative entries such as missing units or unmatched evidence references; it is not a safety, assurance or calculation-accuracy guarantee. |
Hypothetical same-workload scenario: before means a client team and consultant spend 90 combined minutes gathering, checking and reconciling one evidence set; after means 60 combined minutes using a structured template, including review and exception effort. It is an administrative-effort illustration only, not a headcount, payroll, emissions or energy-saving claim.
Scenario figures are illustrative arithmetic, not benchmarks, forecasts, actual customer results or guarantees. Measure a like-for-like pilot with the same definitions before making a claim.

What to prepare
- Approved bill of materials and product or batch quantities from production or operations owner, with units and reporting period.
- Energy and process activity records, such as meter allocations or fuel records, from facilities or operations owner.
- Supplier material evidence and factor documentation, including source, version, geography, unit and date, from procurement or suppliers.
- Outbound logistics and export records, such as shipment mode, mass, distance or tonne-km, from logistics or trade owner.
- Intended customer, disclosure or adviser request and authorised sharing instructions from the commercial and sustainability owner.
What to agree in writing
- This is scoped consultancy and proposed digital assistance; it is not software already installed, a live integration or a continuously monitored dashboard.
- Figures are draft until authorised client reviewers approve data, boundaries, factors and wording; AIGreen Plus does not provide certified assurance or act as an accredited verifier.
- Applicability of CBAM or any other export, customs, carbon-pricing, legal or tax requirement must be confirmed for the organisation, product and reporting period with qualified advisers.
- Only necessary approved or anonymised records should be shared; access, retention, confidentiality, cross-border transfer and any system connection require written agreement.
- The engagement excludes guaranteed reductions, regulatory conformity, customer acceptance, tariff or certificate calculations, and any result outside the agreed product, period and method.
Make activity, units and evidence easy to check.
Product and embedded-carbon records use the agreed product/system boundary, functional or declared unit, allocation rules and applicable method. They are not automatically equivalent to an organisational Scope 1/2/3 inventory. CBAM product boundaries and reporting rules need a separate applicability check.
Product boundary first
Proposed fields: product specification, functional/declared unit, system boundary, life-cycle stage, bill of materials, process inputs, energy, transport, allocation, exclusions and intended use. For EPD work, applicable product-category rules and independent programme requirements must be confirmed separately.
| Field group | Example contents / selections | Review check |
|---|---|---|
| Record identity | Site/entity, reporting period, activity owner and source record ID | Keep the agreed boundary and period consistent. |
| Activity/source | Fuel invoice, electricity meter, shipment, supplier record or process record | Identify the evidence and whether the value is measured or estimated. |
| Quantity and selectable unit | Examples: litres, kg, kWh, km, tonne-km or units of product | Choose a unit appropriate to the method; do not interchange units without a documented conversion. |
| Emission factor and factor unit | Numeric factor field; example unit kgCO₂e/kWh or kgCO₂e/litre | No default or approved factor is supplied here. The factor denominator must match the activity unit. |
| Factor provenance | Source, version/year, publication date, geography, gas/GWP basis and method | Qualified reviewers approve applicability, conversion and any licensed factor data. |
| Evidence and reviewer | Document reference, estimation basis, data-quality flag, owner and approval status | Trace each calculation to approved records and retain unresolved exceptions. |

10 questions. Practical answers.
Frequently asked questions.
Ten practical answers about scope, sources, review and responsible use.
What does the embedded-carbon calculation service actually cover?
It covers a defined product or batch, boundary and period; activity-data mapping; factor provenance; allocation and assumption notes; exception review; and a handover pack. It does not automatically determine a legal obligation or produce certified assurance.
What data should a Malaysian manufacturer prepare first?
Start with an approved bill of materials and output quantity, allocated electricity or fuel records, process data, logistics details, supplier evidence and the intended customer request. Each item should have a unit, period, owner and a usable evidence reference.
Which method or standard will you use?
The method is agreed during scoping. The GHG Protocol Product Standard is a possible reference for product life-cycle emissions, while an export customer or applicable official regime may require a different boundary or calculation method. We document the choice rather than assume it.
Who signs off the product boundary and final information?
The client appoints an authorised owner, typically sustainability, operations or finance with management backing. Data owners validate records, and qualified advisers address regulatory or tax interpretation. A consultant cannot replace the organisation’s approval or external verifier.
Is this certification or independent assurance?
No. It is consultancy and readiness support. A traceable workbook can help an organisation prepare for a customer review or separately appointed assurance, but it is not a certificate, accredited verification opinion or AIGreen Plus assurance claim.
Are the dashboard values and time scenario actual results?
No. The dashboard rows and the 90-to-60-minute scenario are fictional planning illustrations. They do not represent your carbon, energy, labour, headcount, payroll or compliance performance. Actual results require approved data and an agreed method.
How will confidentiality and access be handled?
Use the least necessary approved or anonymised records. Before sharing, agree access roles, retention, transfer, storage and any system connection in writing. A qualified Malaysian review may be needed for privacy, contractual, legal or cross-border requirements; this page is not a compliance determination.
Can this work with our existing ERP, meter or export files?
Yes, as an input-mapping discussion rather than a promised integration. Existing exports can be reviewed for fields, units and period consistency, then manually loaded into an agreed template unless a separate written technical scope authorises a connection and controls.
How long does the work take?
Timing depends on product complexity, boundary choices, data owners, supplier responses and review cycles. We do not promise a fixed duration here. A scoping milestone can set the sequence, dependencies and decision dates once the evidence set is understood.
What affects the quote, support and ongoing ownership?
Scope, number of products or batches, data quality, factor research, allocation complexity, stakeholder reviews, deliverable format and any approved system work affect effort. The proposal should state one-off versus refresh support, response expectations and client ownership; 24/7 support and recurring prices are not implied.
Discuss Embedded Carbon Emissions Calculation for Export Products
Share a high-level question and the type of evidence involved—not confidential records. We can discuss discovery, scope and a written way to review the work.
Check the current public material.
These references support an initial discussion only. They do not make AIGreen Plus an accredited or certified verifier.
Public official material — not accreditation.
- GHG Protocol Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard
The Product Standard covers product life-cycle emissions, including raw materials, manufacturing, transport, storage, use and disposal, and distinguishes product-level accounting from corporate Scope 3 accounting; used here to frame boundary and factor documentation without claiming a mandatory method.
- European Commission Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism
The Commission states that CBAM entered its definitive regime on 1 January 2026, covers selected sectors, and places obligations on importers for embedded emissions; used only to justify export-data readiness and the need to confirm product-specific applicability, not to assert that every Malaysian exporter is in scope.
These official pages support the product-life-cycle accounting context and the bounded CBAM readiness distinction. They do not establish that this organisation, product or reporting period is in scope; applicability, method, filing and assurance requirements need current qualified review.
Dashboards and numerical scenarios are fictional planning examples. The services are proposed consultancy scopes, not certification, accreditation, assurance, legal advice, regulatory approval or a promise of emissions, cost, staffing, safety, quality or market outcomes.
