Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Transport and Logistics
Turn freight records into a reviewable emissions evidence trail. Scope first, calculate carefully, decide with confidence.
AIGreen Plus can help a Malaysian manufacturer define the transport boundary, assemble activity and factor evidence, and test a proportionate calculation approach. The engagement is consultancy and digital assistance, not an installed emissions system, certified assurance or a promise of lower emissions.

This service structures greenhouse-gas information for inbound freight, inter-site movements and relevant outbound logistics. We map who paid for each movement, the reporting period, mode, mass, distance or fuel data, and the factor source before proposing a calculation. The GHG Protocol describes fuel-, distance- and spend-based methods; the selected method remains subject to boundary, data quality and qualified client review. Outputs are working papers, exceptions and a handover-ready evidence pack.

Illustrative transport evidence review
Illustrative movement records by transport slice
Fictional sample values · Bars compare the fictional record counts in three displayed slices; they are not measured emissions, savings or a customer result.
| Activity slice | Records (count) | Boundary review | Factor status | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Inbound supplier road | 18 | Scope 3 Cat. 4 proposed | Complete | Checked |
| Outbound customer road | 14 | Scope 3 Cat. 9 proposed | Provisional | Carrier evidence pending |
| Inter-site third-party truck | 9 | Scope 3 Cat. 4 proposed | Complete | Checked |
| Warehouse transfer | 7 | Scope 3 Cat. 4 proposed | Complete | Checked |
The fictional sample contains 48 movement records across four slices. Three slices show complete factor evidence and one outbound slice remains for boundary and factor review. No emissions total or reduction claim is inferred from these rows.

Organise the work. Keep conclusions with people.
The proposed support can structure records and questions; responsible owners still assess evidence, applicability and decisions.
| Review point | Common starting position | Proposed consultancy support | Responsible reviewer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classify inbound and outbound movements | Reconcile invoices, consignment notes and contracts across teams | Propose a reviewable movement register and flag missing boundary fields | Client confirms payer, ownership, category and exclusions |
| Prepare activity data | Copy mass, distance, fuel or shipment quantities into working files | Assist with structured templates, unit checks and duplicate prompts | Data owners validate records and approve estimates |
| Select factors and method | Compare factor files, versions and calculation assumptions | Organise cited factor metadata and surface unit mismatches | Qualified reviewer selects and approves the applicable method |
| Explain exceptions | Trace gaps through email and fragmented evidence | Draft an exception queue and evidence-request checklist | Authorised stakeholders resolve, accept or reject each exception |
Make responsibility visible
Create a movement map that distinguishes company-controlled activity from purchased or downstream transport, subject to client confirmation.
Build a usable evidence trail
Link approved source records to activity fields, factor metadata and assumptions so reviewers can reproduce the working calculation.
Reduce avoidable checking
Use a documented unit and factor review to identify gaps without presenting an unapproved factor as a measured result.
Prioritise practical next actions
Rank boundary, data and supplier evidence issues for follow-up by the people who can resolve them.

45 → 25 combined labour minutes for the same task.
24 one transport movement batch reconciled for boundary, activity and factor evidence units per month × 20 minutes less per unit.
10 → 4 per 100 checked error-affected transport evidence entries, not emissions reductions, compliance findings, incidents or product outcomes (6.0 percentage points).

| Measure | Illustrative calculation | Meaning and limit |
|---|---|---|
| Labour effort | (45 − 25) ÷ 45 × 100 = 44.4% | Same workload and expected review quality; includes ongoing exception checks as scoped. |
| Time capacity | (45 − 25) × 24 ÷ 60 = 8.0 hours | Released time is not payroll savings or guaranteed job reduction. |
| Admin checks | (10 − 4) ÷ 100 = 6.0 percentage points; 60.0% relative | A hypothetical like-for-like check of 100 administrative entries in each scenario, with fewer unit, boundary or source-reference errors after a review structure is introduced; not a benchmark, assurance conclusion or outcome guarantee. |
FICTIONAL same-workload scenario: one client-prepared batch takes 45 minutes before structured review, including consultant/client checking and exception effort; a proposed template and review sequence takes 25 minutes after setup. It describes administrative effort only, not headcount reduction, payroll savings, freight efficiency or emissions improvement.
Scenario figures are illustrative arithmetic, not benchmarks, forecasts, actual customer results or guarantees. Measure a like-for-like pilot with the same definitions before making a claim.

What to prepare
- Approved shipment or freight records with period, origin/destination at an appropriate level, mode, mass or quantity and route evidence, owned by logistics/procurement
- Carrier invoices, contracts and payer terms showing whether inbound, inter-site or downstream transport is purchased or controlled, owned by procurement/finance
- Fuel, distance, tonne-distance or carrier activity records with selectable units and allocation basis where available, owned by logistics or transport providers
- Emission factor files or references stating factor value, unit, lifecycle or combustion basis, source/version/date and geography, approved by the client technical reviewer
- Supporting purchase orders, bills of lading, warehouse records, customer delivery terms and exception explanations, limited to necessary fields by the client data owner
What to agree in writing
- This is scoped consultancy and proposed digital assistance; it is not an installed software product, live fleet/GPS/IoT integration or automatic data connection.
- Scope 3 categories 4 or 9 are used only where the selected boundary and method assign the movement there; company-controlled vehicles, leased assets and other categories require separate classification.
- Client owners approve source records, factors, estimates, assumptions and final disclosures; AIGreen Plus does not provide certified assurance or claim accreditation.
- Access, anonymisation, retention, supplier confidentiality and any system interface are limited to written agreement and least-necessary approved data; Malaysian legal, tax and reporting applicability requires qualified advisers.
- Fees, recurring support, licences, training, external verification and ongoing monitoring are separate scope items; no emissions, cost, energy, headcount or certification outcome is guaranteed.
Make activity, units and evidence easy to check.
Scope and category are proposed classification fields. Confirm organisational and operational boundaries first; the same activity must not be counted twice across sources. Scope 3 relevance and calculation methods require screening, not automatic selection.

Category names follow GHG Protocol — Scope 3 Calculation Guidance (read 2026-10-22). The official public guidance lists fifteen Scope 3 categories and category-specific calculation methods. The list is a screening reference, not a finding that every category applies to a manufacturer.
| Field group | Example contents / selections | Review check |
|---|---|---|
| Record identity | Site/entity, reporting period, activity owner and source record ID | Keep the agreed boundary and period consistent. |
| Activity/source | Fuel invoice, electricity meter, shipment, supplier record or process record | Identify the evidence and whether the value is measured or estimated. |
| Quantity and selectable unit | Examples: litres, kg, kWh, km, tonne-km or units of product | Choose a unit appropriate to the method; do not interchange units without a documented conversion. |
| Emission factor and factor unit | Numeric factor field; example unit kgCO₂e/kWh or kgCO₂e/litre | No default or approved factor is supplied here. The factor denominator must match the activity unit. |
| Factor provenance | Source, version/year, publication date, geography, gas/GWP basis and method | Qualified reviewers approve applicability, conversion and any licensed factor data. |
| Evidence and reviewer | Document reference, estimation basis, data-quality flag, owner and approval status | Trace each calculation to approved records and retain unresolved exceptions. |
Optional fleet, maps and IoT feasibility
Fleet telematics, route/map services and meter or sensor data may be assessed later. Provider/API rights, devices, calibration, coverage, timestamps, quality, privacy, access security, compatibility and cost need discovery and written agreement. This website does not track vehicles, read sensors or collect live customer data.
This is an educational proposal panel, not a form, upload feature, factor database, live integration or calculated emissions result. Numerical dashboard values elsewhere are fictional; approved source data and qualified review are required for an actual engagement.

10 questions. Practical answers.
Frequently asked questions.
Ten practical answers about scope, sources, review and responsible use.
What does the transport and logistics GHG consultancy actually cover?
It covers boundary mapping, movement-data structuring, method comparison, factor provenance checks, exception review and a handover pack. Typical movements include supplier inbound freight, third-party inter-site logistics and relevant downstream transport. The agreed scope determines what is included; it is not a full corporate inventory by default.
What data should a Malaysian manufacturer prepare first?
Start with the reporting period, movement type, payer or contractual responsibility, mode, shipment mass or quantity, distance or fuel where available, and supporting invoices or consignment records. Also provide each proposed factor's unit, source, version and date. Route or vehicle detail is requested only where approved and useful.
Which method or standard will you use?
The engagement can assess the GHG Protocol Scope 3 transportation guidance and its fuel-, distance- or spend-based options. The selected method depends on the boundary, activity-data quality and allocation basis. We do not imply possession of a proprietary standard or decide applicability without client and qualified technical review.
Who signs off the boundary and emissions working paper?
The client's authorised ESG or reporting owner remains accountable, with logistics, procurement and finance validating their records. A qualified adviser should confirm material accounting, legal or reporting questions. AIGreen Plus can prepare a reviewable working pack and facilitate challenge, but does not replace management approval or independent assurance.
Is this certification, verification or assurance?
No. The service can improve traceability and readiness for a client's chosen reporting or future external review. It does not certify an inventory, provide accredited assurance, issue a regulator approval or guarantee conformity with a particular disclosure, customer or export requirement.
Are the dashboard figures and time scenario actual results?
No. The dashboard rows and administrative-effort scenario are fictional illustrations designed to show coherent review logic. They are not your emissions, factor quality, labour saving, freight performance or carbon reduction. Any client figure would require approved evidence, documented assumptions and accountable review.
How are confidentiality and access handled?
Access should be limited to approved files and fields needed for the agreed scope, with anonymisation and retention terms documented before work begins. Supplier and customer information can be minimised. This page is not a Malaysian privacy or cybersecurity compliance determination; obtain qualified local advice for those obligations.
Can this work with our existing ERP, TMS or spreadsheets?
Yes, discovery can assess exports or manual templates from existing systems without claiming a current integration. Fleet maps, GPS and IoT feeds are optional feasibility topics, not built-in capability. Any interface, licence, testing, access role and fallback process must be agreed in writing.
How long does the engagement take?
Timing depends on movement volume, supplier evidence, factor decisions, review availability and whether boundaries cross business units or countries. We will agree milestones after discovery rather than invent a duration. Delayed carrier data or unresolved payer terms can move a review milestone.
What affects the quotation and ongoing support?
The quote depends on sites, movement categories, periods, data condition, number of stakeholders, method testing, workshops, templates and handover depth. Recurring monitoring, refreshes, training, licences and external verification are separate choices. Support hours and response expectations require a written agreement; 24/7 support is not implied.

- GHG Protocol Scope 3 Calculation Guidance
The Scope 3 guidance covers methods for all 15 categories, including transportation and distribution, and explains that method selection and examples support value-chain assessment.
- GHG Protocol Technical Guidance: Category 4 Upstream Transportation and Distribution
Category 4 boundary distinctions and fuel-, distance- and spend-based transport methods; distance-based activity uses mass, distance and mode, while scope 3 transport should use life-cycle factors.
- GHG Protocol Technical Guidance: Category 9 Downstream Transportation and Distribution
Category 9 covers post-sale transport and distribution in vehicles or facilities not owned or controlled by the reporting company; outbound transport purchased by the company belongs in category 4, and transport methods follow category 4.
These official GHG Protocol pages and technical chapters support the bounded method and category explanations used here. Applicability, boundary, factor choice and reporting treatment must be confirmed for the organisation, contracts and reporting period with accountable management and qualified advisers; this is not legal, tax or assurance advice.
Dashboards and numerical scenarios are fictional planning examples. The services are proposed consultancy scopes, not certification, accreditation, assurance, legal advice, regulatory approval or a promise of emissions, cost, staffing, safety, quality or market outcomes.
